Living at Midway Station Means Being Close to What’s Next: Midland’s Growth & Development

Midland has long been recognized as a major center of the Permian Basin, but the city's growth story extends beyond the energy industry. New businesses, transportation improvements, commercial development, and major investments in emerging industries are helping shape what comes next for Midland.

For residents of Midway Station Apartment Homes at 3700 N A St, that growth is happening throughout the city, with convenient access to Loop 250, Claydesta Business Park, shopping, dining, entertainment, and major employment areas.

Here are some of the developments helping shape Midland's future.

New Industries Are Creating New Opportunities

Midland's economy continues to have deep roots in energy, while local economic development efforts are also focused on attracting and expanding businesses in industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, transportation, distribution, and professional services. The Midland Development Corporation specifically identifies business expansion, job creation, and economic diversification as key parts of its mission.

One of the most significant recent developments is the planned expansion of AST SpaceMobile at the Midland Spaceport Business Park. In July 2026, the Midland Development Corporation and Midland City Council approved a performance-based incentive agreement supporting a new 400,000-plus-square-foot satellite manufacturing and production facility.

The expansion is expected to create 1,800 full-time jobs and generate approximately $144 million in annual payroll at full build-out. The project represents the largest aerospace manufacturing investment in Midland's history and is expected to further strengthen the city's presence in aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing.

For Midland residents, developments like this represent more than new buildings. They can bring new employment opportunities, additional businesses, and increased demand for services throughout the community.

Transportation Improvements Are Keeping Midland Connected

As Midland continues to grow, transportation infrastructure is evolving alongside it.

One major project currently underway is the Loop 250/Todd Drive Interchange Project. According to the City of Midland's July 2026 update, construction includes a new interchange, traffic signals, paving, drainage, and underground utility work. The project received a $1 million investment from the Midland Development Corporation that helped accelerate the project, while TxDOT awarded a construction contract valued at nearly $20 million.

The project is intended to improve safety, reduce congestion, and strengthen connectivity along the Loop 250 corridor.

That matters for residents of Midway Station, where convenient access to Loop 250 is already part of the community's location advantages. As transportation corridors continue to improve, residents can stay connected to employment centers, shopping, dining, recreation, and other parts of Midland.

New Road Connections Are Supporting Growth

Midland is also adding and improving road connections as development expands into growing areas of the city.

The Fairgrounds Road extension from Loop 250 to Mockingbird Lane opened in late 2025, creating another north-south connection between Loop 250 and areas around Hogan Park and northeast Midland. The City of Midland described the project as an important connection to newly developing areas.

Additional city and county roadway projects are also underway. Midland County's 2026 road program includes approximately 90 miles of countywide chip seal work, while a separate FY 2026 mill-and-fill project is rehabilitating approximately three miles of roadway between S. Midkiff Road and Cotton Flat Road.

Continued investment in roads and transportation helps Midland prepare its infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial growth.

Retail Development Is Expanding Midland's Options

Economic growth also means more places to shop, dine, work, and spend time close to home.

The Midland Development Corporation has highlighted continued retail expansion as part of the city's development activity. One example is planned infrastructure supporting a 17-acre retail development near SH 191 and SH 158, with Costco identified among the planned developments for the area. The MDC has committed funding toward streets needed to serve the retail project.

New retail and commercial projects can add convenience for residents while creating opportunities for local businesses and employees.

Midland's development pipeline also includes new restaurants and other neighborhood-serving businesses. Recent approvals include a second Dutch Bros location, a new HTeaO, and a veterinary hospital planned in the Westridge Village area.

Downtown Midland Is Growing, Too

Growth isn't limited to Midland's outer development corridors. Downtown is also seeing continued investment.

Two new downtown hotels, the Locklin by Tapestry Hilton and the Omni Midland, were expected to break ground in 2026. The projects are planned to add hotel rooms, parking, retail, and meeting space to the downtown area.

For residents, continued downtown development means more destinations to explore, from restaurants and entertainment to business and community events.

Why Midland's Growth Matters for Residents

Economic development can have an impact well beyond the businesses making new investments. As Midland continues to attract employers, expand infrastructure, and add commercial developments, residents can benefit from having more opportunities and services throughout the community.

For those living at Midway Station, some of the area's key advantages are already close to home:
